Wood Boat Build #2 Glen-L – “Flying Saucer” Frame Assembly

Progress video on my Glen-L “Flying Saucer” build. Its a dual cockpit runabout, based on the Chris Craft style, mohogany speedboats of the 30’s and 40’s. Im not an expert, just a 1st time builder feeling my way around. Thanks for watching.

    @GlenLMarine Got my building form level, plum and square tonite. Leveled and secured frames 2 and 4 to the building form. Then I ripped my battens, keel, chines and sheer lamnations, on the same table saw my late father used to build his Glen L Dory, back in 85. All this while having a few beers with my brother, which rarely happens. Out standing! Good times for sure. Spring is 10 weeks away. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . it’s go time. Thanks for watching

    Looking good so far! You’re right–Zip and Flying Saucer share the same frames. . .

    @britex3186 I’m not sure, I’m just sticking to the plan. Glen L has been building boats for 50+ years. I furgure they know what their doing. Thanks for the comment.

    is there a reason for using nails over screws other than cost?

    @SuperUnknownMC The Thames River. The launch I use is about 3 miles from my house.

  8. SuperUnknownMC says:

    @classicoutboards thanks pal, whats the name of the river you take your boats out on?

    @aeroliner750 Not sure what the final cost will be, I assume it will be a work in progress for a few years. But I should have it on the water this summer for about 3k, which is about what I spent on fuel last summer while using the formula. The 3/4 sheet of ply I used for the transome, cost me $191, yeah $191, (holy crap, thats what I said too) the 1/4″ okoume I’ll be using for the hull and deck is $90 a sheet. I could go 1/2 price on the material, but thats not my way.

    @twistedkeys1 I hear ya.

    hey way to go looking good so far
    what do you think that this boat will cost at the end ?
    you’re using some costly wood the plywood has to go for what 50 60$ per sheet ?
