I plan on fishing on a river nearby with the boat. I there will be at least two people (total) in the boat. And maybe even as many as three people now and then. I can get a 50 lb-thrust trolling motor from Walmart for $190. Or I try to get a 9.9 or 15hp outboard for $400-$500. Which motor would be the best for me to get?
I wouldnt go bigger than a 9. 9 because thats plenty of motor and some lakes only alow a 9. 9 or smaller so you would be resticted if you went bigger.
Get the outboard. You’ll be glad you did. Trust me.
The trolling motor works fine for repositioning, or even holding your position, but you’ll be severely limited in where you can get to.
6hp would be adequate, 9. 9 would be plenty. 15 would be really fun.
Go for the outboard.
Look for both a used clamp on trolling motor and a 9. 9 outboard motor. Use the outboard to get to the fishing spot and use the trolling motor to troll around. Best of luck.
