This is a tough one. I’m not sure.
Well, you can find many web sites on spacecraft design, try that. But, I can respond to one point. A good spaceship will be a structure designed to be assembled in high orbit, and will not enter any atmosphere. All of the structures necessary for high gravity atmospheric travel are useless dead mass when it come to space travel. We are not quite to this point, but getting closer. Check out the current Mission to Mars plans at the NASA website. Three different launch vehicles. That is the first step, how to get things into space efficiently. If we get better at that, we will see more ambitious construction projects, like a permanent moon base, or a high orbit space station.
You don’t have to know how something works to use it. Launching a rocket ship is like balancing a pencil on your finger tip to me. What makes the rocket stable instead of falling over?With a rocket engine I see two principles involved. The first one would be the addition of energy to an object. The energy level is increased in an object. The second would be fluid velocity. There is mass,engine thrust,escape velocity,then inertia as common but what is the effect of the spent fuel going through the rocket nozzle?This extremely high velocity spent fuel movement is like a big refrigerator. The temperatures drop and atomic diameters decrease. Ice sheets off of the hull. With enough energy to travel the velocity of light I see that the atoms actually enter the node. You have a node mass object. Zero mass in space. Neutron star material. After the velocity of light is achieved you would have deceleration by reducing thrust. Build and launch your craft from the space station.
