New Star Trek ship i’ve created from scratch in Blender, USS Wirral NCC – 0616 – C, this ship would be in the same era as TNG, DS9 & Voyager. The design was mostly influenced by the Intrepid class ship. I found a really good site for Star Trek blueprints, its got nearly every ship and i found it a help when making my own design: www.cygnus-x1.net
With the engines, can’t remember if i used a cube or cylinder but either should work, size it to the engines in the blueprint image, then use CTRL-R to make a loop cut and then scale it in the places where its needed to curve the mesh, like with extruding this is done multiple times ’till it looks right.
When extrudeing the saucer, extrude it multiple times, like extrude then size, extrude again and size ect. . . to match the curves of the ship.
If you’re making an exact intrepid model then its gonna be more difficult, if you look at mine from the side its basically symmetrical, whereas the real Intrepid class has like a spine towards the rear of the saucer, but you could always add the spine bit as a separate object.
@Scythe137 With the saucer what i do is first get the blueprints for the ship, and load the top one first as a background image, add circle with say about 64 verticies and size it up to the image, then load the side view blueprint and move the circle (in side view) to the point where its at its widest and extrude the circle and scale it to the image bit by bit untill it looks right, then add a subsurf and/or smooth modifyer to smooth it out.
