I am writing about different woods that can be used to construct boats and was using the wooden boat forum. They have authority on the subject because they have built boats, and many of them write through first hand experience.

You need to be careful and do research outside of the forum but other that I don’t see any reason it wouldn’t be an acceptable source
No. . but remember that if it’s not a factual site about wood used in boats, the info may not always be correct. You are getting first handed knowledge from people but there is really no way to know if what they are saying is correcft since you, yourself are not knowledgeable on the subject.
I’d use it to help you as a source. . but don’t use it as your main source b/c it’s not reliable.
