I would plan to surf DMJs in front of Camp Pendleton, but the only way for me to get there would be to take my zodiac and just anchor it past the surf break and paddle in with my board. Is this illegal and would the MPs give me a hard time?

the anwser is no. pendleton is an active military base and it would be a matter of security.
if you dont ahve any budies in the corps you can always just ask for a guest pass at the gate.
