Is a 12 ft flat boat big enough?

Hey, I found a great deal on a 12 ft boat. I live and Louisiana and I’m planning on using it for fishing and duck hunting with my friend. Do u think that a 12 ft Jon boat is big enough for 2 or 3 people to hunt and fish from?

    Sure it is.

Personally. . I’d keep it at 2 people when hunting, and maximum 3 people when fishing.

it depends on where you plan to go boating. a 12′ flat bottom boat (like a jon boat) will be good for protected waters, small lakes and very slow moving streams. they are not designed for big waves windy conditions or fast moving water. the boat should have a capacity plate on the inside of the transom that will tell you the max number of people, hp and weight. a 12′ boat is great for 2 people, will will get crowded in a hurry with three on board.

    hope this helps

I’ve never liked to Duck Hunt with three in a boat, and 12 ft. at that. It will fish 2 no problem, but watch out for the Gators.

how big are you?? under or over 200 pounds, 12foot boat dont plan on putting more than 600 pounds in a small boat like that

2 max in that size. especially if they arent all kids and weigh very little. you can only hold so many pounds worth of passengers and gear, and you’ve only got so much room.

my 16′ hull gets crowded with three fishing in it. its rated for 700 lbs worth of passegners and gear, three full grown adults and their fishing gear is max capacity.

when your talking alum hull, like most flat bottom smaller boats are, as long as you dont wreck them, they can last forever. take your time, and you should have no problems finding a vessel that fits your needs at a price you can afford, as you can afford to look at the 20+ year old boats. if you shop smart, you should be able to find one with an well maintained and good running outboard that will last a few more years.

my hull is from 1984. rewired it, which is pretty simple when you toss all the old and just put in new from scratch. new bilge pump, and a new outboard (old one was from 1976). i have every reason to expect a reliable 20+ more years from it. i’ll probably need to replace the original astro turf carpeting soon, and cheap pole mounted seats dont last forever. . . . . . but i’ll spend more keeping the outboard maintained and full of gas then on anything else in the next decade or three.

Yes it is. Have fun and enjoy your new toy.
