For my physics honors class we were assigned to create a boat out of only two things: cardboard and 1 roll of standard 2.5″ ducktape. We are allowed to use as much cardboard as we want. The boat should be able to hold two people and get them across and back our high school’s swimming pool.
Im am looking for suggestions that would help me as I really do need this project to work out to bring my physics’s grade up.
Things like the way to build it, structure design, and other tips would be a great help.
Thanks

man ur high school sounds awesome but some designs would be the standard boat and cover the whole bottom of it with tape if you can so the water can’t get in and just build on this idea
look for a box which was designed to contain either a recliner or refrigerator, they will already have a boat shape and be quite sturdy, use the duct tape in slightly overlapping layers
You’d need to have extra support in the bottom. You might want to use at least two pieces of carboard for the bottom. One might need to be bigger than the other and when the boat is complete still have part of it sticking out, I suppose that might prevent water from leaking into the boat. Don’t focus too much on the edges because it will make your boat heavier, but you should still have some supports at the sides to further prevent water from passing through and it will be safer for a person to travel in it. Be sure to cover edges where pieces of carboard meet with more tape.
A good thing to keep in mind is that the buoyant force that the water exerts on you and the boat is equal to the weight of the displaced water. If you know the weight of the riders, and a rough estimate of the weight of the boat you can determine what the minimum volume of the boat should be to give you a buoyant force equal to the above weights.
if you want an edge. . . . . . use some spray on waterproofer below your boats water line. outside and inside.
it will dry clear and no one has to know!
good luck!
