So just what is drop shipping? To have something drop shipped means that it is being sent to the customer straight from the supplier in you behalf. The customer’s order is placed with the drop shipping supplier by the seller after they receive payment for the buyer. Although the merchandise comes from the drop shipping supplier, it arrives to the customer with the return address of the merchant.
The seller never has to handle or store the product as it is sent from the supplier to the buyer. The biggest benefit to the seller is time saved by the packaging and shipping being done for them. So are you ready to start, and become the next dot com success story?
This is a short list of things you need to do.
The first of which is looking for a drop shipper for the products you wish to promote. The Internet is your best resource. Simply Google the products name plus drop shipper and come up with a list. You could also do a search for wholesale directories. It won’t take long to find dozens of suppliers.
There are thing you need to look for in a drop shipping company. There will probably be fees involved with a drop shipper, some may be monthly, these should be low.
There is no set standard procedure for going about paying for your products from the vendor, some may ask you to fund your account in advance, most will let you pay when you place your order. Be warned the Internet is full of fake drop shipping companies designed to only set you up for one scam after another.
You should check a potential vendor out with the BBB before you give them your money or consider using a service such as the SaleHoo wholesale directory.
Having solved the problems with storage and up front costs, it is time to take full advantage of the the relationship by listing as many related products as you can in your store. The best way to have people visit your site is to get listed high in the search engines, the search engines love very specific pages full of original content.
With some effort and a little cash, you will have your first e-store set up.
The final part of the process is just as easy, you make a sale and then place your order with your vendor. More often than not the vendor will have a store similar to yours, so ordering is a snap.
Some more drop shipping tips:
1) Don’t charge to much, you want plenty of sales, if you don’t know already the money is in the list!
2) The drop shipper you choose may offer you a pre-made e-store, resist this temptation because the content will be duplicated across the web giving you no advantage with the search engines.
3) Invest in an 800 toll free number. Even if it goes to a voice mail, people will feel better about buying from you if they know they have a number to call if they have problems.
4) If you do a web search for trust seals you will find plenty, adding one or two to your store will help with conversions.
5) Remember the money is in the list so, don’t be afraid to send emails to bring people back to your store!
