The small wooden boat has a powerful engine. The huge ship has stronger engines, but is so heavy it weighs it down. They really don’t travel very fast.

Because transports are made to be efficient, and are thus, very slow. The Maersk Alabama topped out below 20 knots. Anyone can have a 35+ knot boat by throwing on a good outboard on a small boat.

So you never heard of something called a Zodiac? 15-21 ‘ long with a 50 hp motor can easily overtake a ship , especialy if they are in front and go towards them. Hell , you could do that in a 12′ rowboat. The pirates do not have tiny little wooden boats. They are launched off much larger ships , almost as large as the ships they overtake, and big ships are not as fast as your average personal fishing boat. Obviously you are not in touch with reality. Read the whole story before assuming such nonsense as you seem to think

Your belief has no relevance to the reality of the situation.

Obviously the hundreds of hostages, and the millions of ransom dollars and extra insurance costs are just a plot to piss you off.

What part of small, very maneuverable and fast compared to huge, reasonably quick but incredibly slow to react to a course change don’t you get anyway?

  5. Salty Dog says:

I also find it odd that a Ferrari is faster than a big American school bus, and as for the captains awareness of the pirates, could you possibly ask a more stupid question?

  6. Ron D says:

They can go faster than a big ship. They also have more firepower (guns) than large ships.

  7. trunorth says:

    Big boats move s. . . l. . . o. . . w.

    Little boats move FAST.

They catch up, and climb aboard with guns.

We have all heard of the pirates, but they have a job to do, so they head out on the open water.
