How beneath the bottom of my boat should I place the prop, it is a 16 ft.: dory with a widht of 43″ ?

This is a 16′ dory that I plan on adding a motor well to. It is about 19″ to the shear, and the width is 43″. It is a doubleender, and very light. Let me know, as I have bought a very lightweight 2hp outboard for it . Thanks, Tim Brown

Perhaps the better question is how high is the top of the engine mounting board. Depending on the motor, short shaft 15″ or long shaft 20″ . The cavitation plate, just above the propeller, should skim the top of the water at speed.

If you are building the well inside the boat to mount the motor, the motor mounting board should be high enough for the cavitation plate to within + or – 1/2 inch of the bottom of the boat.
