Help identify the title of this fantasy/SF novel from its summarized cover jacket art design=catfolk/guns/ship?

I remember seeing a fantasy/SF novel cover art design, but I do not remember the name of the author, title, or series. It was likely several years old in 1993-1996, when I saw a relative with it, checked out from the local library for a book report. I need help identifying it, preferably with a link to the cover design for verification.

The story must have been a fantastical futuristic SF/fantasy hybrid themed environment, which I specifically remember the following: there were feline humanoids (cat-folk) of some kind, which had modern clothing and gear, as well as futuristic looking guns – perhaps laser beams. I believe they were on a ship of some form, and they were leaning against a wall(s) near a doorway, appearing to prepare for an ambush, and I believe it was on someone driving/sailing a ship or other transport. I believe it may have had magical or fantastic elements to it, however I know for sure that it had a steam-punk or cyber-punk flair to it, and the humanoids had cat-like features with reddish or brown fur. They had the embellishments of a very deep persona and intelligence, so they were not beast people. It looked like they were planning an ambush on a space ship captain with laser guns, to the best of my memory.

Can you provide a URL reference of the cover design, or at least tell me the title, author, and/or series of this novel most likely from the 1990s? Thanks and best wishes!

This kind of sounds like the “Chanur/ Compact Space” series by C. J. Cherryh. The first book in the series is “Pride of Chanur”. Take a look at this site & follow the arrows to each of the books in the series to see if it’s what you were thinking of.

“When Tully, a fugitive from a spaceship captured by the arrogant, insect-like Kif, takes refuge on the Pride of Chanur, a merchant vessel belonging to a clan of the lion-like Hani, Hilfy, its captain, gives him shelter, in spite of all the dangers she and her crew will face. “
