Do you think it’s insanity to believe a large wooden boat can hold two of every animal species in the world?

  1. IndyT says:

    Yup.

  2. Southpaw says:

    a little bit

  3. Random Guy says:

Yes, it’s more on the mental challenged side rather than insanity though

  4. WhyNotAskMe says:

    Duh. . .

  5. godisntreal says:

    yup!

  6. Hebrews 11 says:

    no – it’s faith.

  7. Soncho says:

With God, all things are possible.

  8. Mollygog says:

Perhaps they were frozen embryos? Much easier to transport.

  9. tealeaf t says:

Not so if God of universe was the architect!

  10. bonzo the tap dancing chimp says:

Of course. Taking religious myths literally is a sure sign of an unwell mind.

  11. Phoenix says:

I wonder how they separated the T-Rex from the Apatosaurus.

  12. ncjay08 says:

Yes, I think so. If Noah was in the Middle East, how did he find two Kangaroos or Polar Bears?

  13. rmarkgarrett says:

Insane? No. Unbelievably gullible, infantile and stupid? Yabetcha.

  14. mona the 1 and only says:

YES YES YES IT IS INSANE AND IF IT WHERE TRUE WHY WASN’T THE UNICORN ON BOARD OR THE PHOENIX ETC ETC SO IN OTHER WORDS IT IS A LOT OF CROCK

  15. creatrix says:

I’m with Mollygog on this one. What if Noah was an Atlantean?? ;)

  16. Nerdly Stud says:

The true story is that we used to live on a planet called Blogromogon 7 and Noah was an interglactic alien who built a wooden star cruiser. There use to be dinosaurs on board, but they died after passing through Uranus. Noah buried them and they turned into fossils.

  17. melrae1116 says:

Yes, the boat would have to be very, very, very, large and still he could not have gotten two or more of “EVERY” species in the world. You are talking about 1 or 2 million species. And what about the dinosars? Some of them liked small prey, right?

  18. amiram a says:

it’s a nice story, never mind reality

  19. amp says:

Well yes, Noah’s Ark seems a little far-fetched, but if we are to take the Bible literally then we’re all related & Adam & Eve single-handedly populated the earth!

I think the Bible was written in parable form so that people could understand it. It simplifies very complex events so that people will remember & relate to it. At least that’s how I take it. Or maybe it is all to be taken literally. With God, all things are possible. Miracles do happen. . .

  20. Puppy says:

Apparently it held only 2 of every ‘type’ or ‘kind’ of animal.

For example, Creationists suggest that the ark contained only one type of Elephant, and it bred into the various forms of Elephant we see in the world today.

This is obviously debunked by the fact that they would have only roughly 5000 years to develop, an impossible achievement given the amount of evidence that this kind of development takes significantly more time.

Believe what you will but try to keep facts in mind.

  21. Hope Dollar says:

    Hi!

Yes. . . modern ships carry FIGHTER PLAINS. . . with the correct design, it is possible. . .

Just to add this. . . Noah would not have been foolish to take big animals into the ship. . . common sense is to take baby animals of male and female, so that they would not increase the weight of the ship. . .

    Hug!

  22. Entwined says:

    Yes.

I believe the measurements are given in the Bible, but I can’t remember what they were. I saw it on tv once though. I mean, it would have to be a seriously big boat.

What he should have done is build a large floatilla of rafts, connected by walkways. If he had made it with enough flexibilty and it was roughly square, with a low centre of gravity and very large (as it would have to be to contain 2 of every animal), then it would have enough stability to survive even the roughest seas.

Why he was asked to take two of every animal on board is in itself a mystery. He would have killed thousands of fish, whales and cephalopods needlessly.

  23. Oscar100 says:

Absolutely, it would have to be the size of ten Titanics I bet. Also Don’t you think that the animals would just eat each other.

  24. pj333 says:

    YOU BET YA !
there was probably a flood and some poor farmer tried to save a few animals and was able to float to safety and those that saw him embellished the truth .
most of these ’stories’ have some sort of truth in them but get bent way out of proportion .

  25. Soleil Noir says:

I’m sure it sounded a lot more reasonable to a bunch of Bronze Age primitives whose world was only a few hundred miles across; but with our modern knowledge of the size of the world, the problems of rebuilding a population with such a small genetic pool, etc. we recognize it as patently ridiculous. Most theists (except for the diehard lunatic fringe) have been forced to backpedal and explain it as metaphor or symbolism — which then begs the question: How can we know which parts of the bible are supposed to be symbolic and which are supposed to be factual, and who gets to make that determination?

  26. J.P. says:

Duh. Of course it is. Even assuming the cubit was twice as long as biblical scholars suppose it is, the boat STILL wouldn’t have been large enough.

And don’t forget, the clean animals were taken aboard seven by seven, not two by two.

  27. luckyme says:

It is insane if you think so, and not if you don’t.
In the metaphysics any human idea can be objective, it all relates only to you and you do not need anyone to tell you if it’s ‘right or wrong’ your ’soul’ , ‘heart’, ’subconsciousness’ is all you need to decide it for yourself.

  28. free spirit says:

Definitely, its all symbolical what they are referring to is man. Man has the essence of animals within them hence the term “animal instincts”. It would literally be impossible to do so other wise.

  29. flyersbiblepreacher says:

The Bible doesn’t say every species, it says every kind. Dogs, wolves, coyotes, jackals and dingoes are called different “species” due to their geographical isolation, but they are all the same animal.

Do the math. You figure out how much space the animals would take. Around 70% of animals are smaller than a hamster. He wouldn’t have needed to take fish or other aquatic animals.

Skeptics who really look at the facts have been converted when they figured out that there was more than enough room on the ark.

  30. Lucky Fokker says:

I love the “With god all things are possible” answers, how does that answer satisfy anything except a simple mind?

  31. danspdg says:

Your question is ill informed in every area.
The ARK was not a boat(but yes it did float extremely well)
Genesis does not say it held 2 of every species in the world, but 2 of every KIND of land animal with the breath of life.
I suggest you do 2 things
    1- read Genesis
    2-look up this site
    Hope this helps

  32. oldmarketeer says:

    It’s ignorance.

The Catholic Church has admitted that the Bible cannot be taken literally, as a scientific book.

It is a literary book, which tells history as it was usual to tell thousand of years ago, and adapted to the knowledge of that time.

But they also insist that the basic teachings are right, that God created everything that exists, etc. I do not necessarily agree, but. . .

There are many indications that some stories told there really happened, such as the Big Flood. Of course, all related to the geographical environment of those who wrote the book.

They did not know the atom, nor the existence of America, nor many other facts. They have the story in a way that can be understood.

For example, the seven days that God used to create the Universe are for me a nice way of explaining the Theory of Evolution. They are perfectly compatibles.

  33. Commander says:

Mankind built and stuck what about 5000 people in the Titanic and that piece of crap boat sunk quickly.
Five years ago two planes hit two massive towers and those man-made object collapsed to the ground like blocks.

God called two of every kind of animal to the ark he closed it and flooded the world that boat floated for about 175 days before it struck land. What is insane about that?? For God NOTHING is impossible. . .

  34. lillie says:

It was more than just a large wooden boat.
The scriptures tell us it was about 437 feet long,73 feet wide, and 44 feet high.
And while it is true that there are over a million species of animals,Noah was instructed to preserve only representatives of every “kind”of land animal and flying creature. Some investigators have said that just 43 “kinds” of mammals,74 “kinds” of birds, and 10 “kinds” of reptiles could have produced the great variety of species of these creatures that are known today. The ark had about
40,000 cu m (1,400,000 cu ft)of usable space – ample for the passenger list.

  35. tim says:

The Bible does not say species, it says kinds.

How many species of dogs are there?
They are all dogs, there is only one kind!

How many species of horses are there?
They are all horses, there is only one kind!

So the question is, how many kinds of animals are there?

  36. link_althor says:

Is it insantiy to belive it when you put the fact that the word “LARGE” is too small to understand the actual size of the boat? This “boat” was 437 ft long, 72. 92 feet wide, 43. 75 feet tall. That total volume is 1,396,000 cubic feet of space! It could hold 125,280 sheep sized animals, and it would only need to hold land animals, and a few kinds of birds. Thats longer than a foot ball field AND not all animals are massviely huge, such as an elephant, which would take up the most space. So, when you say large, your not giving the boat its proper due.
