I am planning on buying a 27-30 ft sea ray sundancer but I want to include in my budget the upkeep, maintenance and docking fees..I live in Miami and dont have any room where to have the boat so I have to leave it in a marina and would like to know the average prices to rent there.
looking at 1995 models.. or boats less than 30 grand

For docking & storage fees, use yer local yellar pages.
You fail to say what year of boat you are looking at. The older the boat the MORE it will cost, period. Also if you can do nothing on your own get ready to pay someone to do it for you. Winterizing, summerizing, oil changes for the engine, and outdrive, trailer maintenance if it is not moored. And THEN repairs costs on top of that! Then, fresh water systems maintenance and repair it can all be a hell of a lot of money unless you are able to do things on your own. I am able to do most things on my own but if I couldent I probably wouldent put up with all the costs of boating. But what I do spend I find the times I have on my boat are worth every penny. With all the different ways to maintain a boat like different shop rates and what the boat needs it is very hard to put a across the board monetary figure on something like that, but if you can’t do anything on your own and don’t want to spend at least 500. 00 per year on maintenance only, not reapirs, you may want to think about a different hobby.
Docking fees can be a big part of your budget. Shop around and see what is available, do not be too surprised at the amounts asked. You may have to find a smaller marina away from your area to get a good price.
Maintenance on a boat is always on going. There is no average cost, just when you think you have one problem solved another will appear. If you can do some minor service yourself you will save a few dollars. But to save money repair the small things as they appear, do not but them off as they will not go away and will cost your more to repair later.
You should allow 10% for service and general maintenance, about $3000 a year.
Good Luck, Boat Safe!
my searay is at a Miami marina. slip is $670. per month. maintenence about $2000. per year. insurance is the big problem. most companies will not insure. gasoline usage with twin 260 h. p. engines is about 40 gals. per hour at cruise speed. if you need repair, labor is $85. per hour. bottom painting $30. to $40. per foot yearly.
best to find a dry storage marina, they put it in and out water when ever you want to use it. costs less per month, and saves maint. cost such as bottom jobs and bottom cleaning and fuel.
Buy a sailboat, There less expensive $2,000 will get you a decent 28 footer,be patient when looking and believe me the deals are out there, then what you do is go from marina to marina staying as long as you like at any of them, lots of boats lots of marinas, you will be like a pirate it will be great!
When buying a used boat, you always find unexpected problems. Please, I ask of you to do yourself a favor. Take a friend (who is “boat wise”) with you when looking at a boat. Two reasons, one of them is that he not caught up in the moment and he may see things wrong you may not see.
You also have two ways in buying a boat. You can go cheap and spend a lot fixing it up, or spend a little more up front and get something ready for the water. You are more than likely going to spend less in the long run if you buy something ready for the water.
As far a upkeep and maintenance, go down to your local marina and talk to some people who have something close to what you are looking at. All people take care of their stuff in different ways. Some have a very thick wallet and a small brain, while others have a thin wallet but a big brain.
If this is your first boat, please do us fellow boaters a favor and take a boating class and learn the rules (and curtsy) of the water. I am a sail boater and all I ask is that you keep your wake down, don’t get so close, and please have your masthead light one meter above your side lights as per the rules.
Sundance has a V drive so have deep pockets as there a hole in the water you throw money into> Find a straight drive there less room but less repairs>
